Students who enroll in the School of Business at SUNY Oswego can expect several things: excellent value for their money, intimate classes, knowledgeable professors, state-of-the-art facilities, and an excellent hockey team. As one student puts it, “In most areas, the school of business is at the top of its class. The classes are challenging and worthwhile. Most professors are really good at their areas. They are also widely available to help students both inside and out of class,” and “really want to see the students succeed.” According to most of the students, the “very small classes promote learning and student-professor interaction.” The program “provides a lot of hands-on work and team activities to help form a strong work ethic” among students.

Designed as a degree in general management, an MBA from SUNY Oswego provides a solid grounding in the basics of modern business organization. The school says that “this program is intended to be equally applicable to private, public, and governmental sectors of management.” The foundation subjects required of students include management, accounting, marketing, organization, law, and finance. In addition, students can choose to specialize in a specific field such as international management, manufacturing management, organizational leadership, or financial services. Foundation course requirements include management information systems, managerial finance, marketing management, management science I, international business, global perspectives on organizational management, and management policy. Students have a choice of taking classes at the Oswego Campus, at the Metro Center in downtown Syracuse, and online. In addition to general management electives, students can also specialize in accounting. Students in the accounting track can gain professional experience by participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. Students interested in finance can spend a semester at the Levin Institute’s International Finance and Global Banking in New York City.

Students find their coursework both rigorous and exciting. As one puts it, “the professors are excellent and the classes are fun and challenging.” Another says, “the course load is challenging, requiring solid communication and organization skills.” Fortunately, the student body as a whole is “reliable and helpful.” “We help each other out in our classes. I think the students in the graduate program really create a bond with one another.”
