Academics
A Jesuit institution, Creighton University provides students with a “strong sense of community,” a myriad of “opportunities for involvement,” and “flexibility with courses.” The school also emphasizes the “importance of service,” an aspect that many undergrads here come to value. Academically, students are quick to praise Creighton’s “amazing health and sciences programs” and note that their school is reputable for “preparing pre-medical students very well.” Many students also highlight the university’s “strong” business school as well. No matter what you ultimately study, expect that your classes will be “challenging.” Fortunately, Creighton has “so many resources on campus for students to obtain academic help.” Even better, undergrads are buoyed by “amazing” professors “that push you to your maximum learning ability but will also do everything in their power to make sure you succeed in life.” Just as important, the vast majority excel at “making class interesting.” They’re also known to be “patient, kind, and encouraging.” As one grateful undergrad illustrates, “They’ll answer the same question a million times until we understand.” Most professors also work diligently to ensure that their students are “more than a number, a face, or a grade,” which makes it easy for undergrads to develop close relationships with them.
Student Body
When asked to describe their peers, Creighton students proudly announce that they are “hardworking” and “academically talented” yet quite “humble” as well. Many also present a “kind Midwestern vibe.” And they are united in their faith. As one undergrad explains, “By no means will peers pressure you into belie ving what they believe, but they will encourage everyone to lead and live lives influenced by Jesuit values.” Hence, most students are “involved in some type of service whether it be in the community or abroad.” A handful of undergrads here do complain that Creighton often feels “homogenous.” These individuals highlight the fact that most of their classmates are “white” and “from middle to upper class families.” Others insist that it’s still “easy to find a place to fit in” no matter your background. And they assert that Creighton students are “accepting of all walks of life.” As this one insightful undergrad concludes, “Creighton University is full of students who support each other: people who study together, people who get coffee together, people who will stay after class with you when you have a quick question, and people who genuinely want to see you succeed.”
Campus Life
Rest assured, “nobody ever seems bored” at Creighton. Whether people are tossing a “Frisbee on the grass,” “socializing in student centers,” or “building snowmen... when there’s a lot of snow,” there’s no shortage of fun to be had. The university itself sponsors “an array of activities...such as movie nights, baking wars, stress relief sessions, etc.” Undergrads here are also fairly active and will often “play indoor soccer in the Rasmussen Center or basketball in the Kiewit Fitness Center.” They love to support Creighton athletics, attending “all the home soccer, basketball, baseball, and volleyball games for both men and women’s teams.” Additionally, “most students are involved with community service as well” and, impressively, “many upperclassmen participate in research or internships to gain experience.” “Greek life is popular”; however, it’s not alienating “for students who do not rush.” The majority of campus parties are sponsored by frats and sororities though. Finally, undergrads love to take advantage of everything that hometown Omaha has to offer. After all, the “campus is a few blocks away from Old Market and Midtown which are full of activities, shops, and restaurants.”
