Location
Daemen's beautiful 46-acre campus is located in Amherst, New York, a peaceful suburb of Buffalo. Daemen's campus is close to many major rail, plane, and motor routes. While the campus setting is tranquil and residential, Buffalo is a vibrant cultural city, bustling with world-class entertainment, such as the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, and Shea's Theater. The greater Buffalo area is rich with sports and recreational activities all year round, whether it be skiing and swimming, or watching our professional sports teams. Niagara Falls is only 30 minutes away and Toronto is just two hours by car. On campus, the numerous trees and open green spaces create a lovely environment to work and study.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
Modern apartment-style residence halls provide separate housing for male and female students, in addition to our existing five-story residence hall. All residence halls have kitchens, laundry facilities, lounges, and free Wi-Fi. Full-service meals are served in the main dining hall, with an a la carte selection in The Den. The recreation room and The Den are popular spots for socializing and relaxing during the day or evening.
The Research and Information Commons is a technological showcase that has become the hub of academic research, as well as the academic and social heart of the campus.
The Haberman Gacioch Center for Visual & Performing Arts is a dramatic space which features The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Gallery, studios for animation, illustration, figure drawing and painting, graphic design production area, computer labs, faculty offices and the Sr. Jeanne File Art History Resource Center. The building was designed with green technology and uses geothermal heating to contain energy costs.
Patricia E. Curtis Hall houses Physician Assistant, Psychology, and Social Work offices.
The Academic and Wellness Center, a multi-use building, is located across from Daemen's Main Street campus, providing 25,000 square feet of educational classrooms and lab areas primarily for the physical therapy, athletic training, and health promotion programs, as well as student lounges, office space, and indoor recreational and fitness space for the Daemen community.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Daemen empowers students to engage in co-curricular activities in the real world to connect their education outside of the classroom.
The Career Services team offers a variety of services to assist students across all academic disciplines, as well as a lifetime resource to alumni in all phases of their career decision-making and job search. Career Services helps students find an internship so that they can gain real-world experience in their area of interest. Students often express how prepared they feel to have had the chance to experience what careers in their fields are really like. As an added bonus, internship employers sometimes offer Daemen interns full-time positions after graduation. The opportunities are local, national, or international, including opportunities with the Washington Internship Institute. Each year Career Services brings employers to campus for career and internship fairs.
Global Programs coordinates distinctive study abroad opportunities designed to facilitate students' professional aspirations. International study is a staple of the Daemen experience. In today's global economy, it makes sense to learn all you can about different cultures, political systems, and histories. An international experience is beneficial whether it's a week, semester, or even a year. Students have studied in Australia, China, Costa Rica, England, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, and many other countries.
Daemen believes in "learning through service." Each academic year, nearly 400 Daemen students contribute over 14,000 volunteer hours to make a difference in the lives of youth, families, and communities. In the process, students serve, learn, and gain the leadership, cross-cultural, and communication skills necessary to become civic-minded individuals prepared to participate in a democratic society. Students can choose from a variety of service-learning courses and site placements in settings that include Boys & Girls Clubs, community centers, soup kitchens, housing rehabilitation and refugee resettlement agencies, shelters for the homeless, nursing homes, and many other health and human service agencies.
