Academics

A world-renowned public research university, Georgia Institute of Technology has a reputations that “opens many doors” for its students. Undergrads here are quick to sing the praises of the university’s “rigorous” and “challenging” engineering, science, and business programs. Students also love Georgia Tech’s focus on “innovation and hands-on learning” which leaves them well prepared to face the job market come graduation. For example, “throughout the school year there are plenty of competitions to create startup companies, flesh out innovative ideas, and show off prototypes.” As if that wasn’t enough, many courses have “a project built-in to force you to apply the material you’ve been studying.” Inside the classroom, undergrads are greeted by professors who are “truly passionate about what they are teaching.” One student further explains, “Most of the professors do research and continue learning themselves. This is the sort of environment that they foster.” Undergrads further appreciate that their instructors “try and stimulate thinking rather than just letting you regurgitate facts.” Another undergrad concurs remarking that her professors “challenge me to grow as an intellectual.” Best of all, they frequently demonstrate themselves to be “invested in your success and making their classes interesting and applicable to real life.”

Student Body

When asked about their peers, Georgia Tech students immediately describe them as “smart,” “driven, and ambitious.” Indeed, it’s rare to find an undergrad here who is “slacking off.” Fortunately, “there isn’t a sense of cut-throat academic rivalry; everyone is much more helpful and supportive of one another.” As one relieved student shares, “People will help you if you’re struggling on a math problem, or if you can’t get your program to function correctly, instead of letting you suffer so that they can get a better grade.” Undergrads also report that their fellow students are often quite “passionate.” Unsurprisingly, that passion is “usually [connected to something] in the technology field.” Indeed, “You walk to campus and you hear kids debating which programming language is better.” Another student agrees explaining, “Most of the jokes exchanged seem to be science-related, and every now and then you see remote-controlled drones flying in the air.” Aside from the “nerd” exterior, you’ll find undergrads that are “witty” and “quirky” as well as “sleep deprived.” There’s also “a very large foreign component to the student body” which many here appreciate. Finally, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention that Georgia Tech is “not just a bunch of computer geeks sitting in their room all day but a group of people who are out there making a difference.”

Campus Life

Given the academic rigors at Georgia Tech, many students will tell you that “studying” is the number one activity. However, even these hard working undergrads need a break every now and then. And thankfully “there is almost always something going on somewhere on campus.” For starters, “there are an abundance of clubs...covering a huge variety of interests, and the majority of students are involved in at least one.” Additionally, “during the fall, large numbers of students spend their weekends tailgating and attending football games.” Undergrads here also enjoy attending “plays and musical events at the arts center.” Moreover, Greek life is extremely popular at Georgia Tech. Fortunately, if you choose not join a sorority or fraternity, your social life won’t take a hit. After all, we’ve been informed that “fraternity parties are generally very welcome...even [to] students who choose not to drink” or “people who are not members.” Finally, students also love to take advantage of Georgia Tech’s prime Atlanta location. The city offers many things to do “from museums, to concerts, festivals, restaurants, clubs, and every other sort of attraction in between!”
