IIT and Chicago are served by O'Hare International Airport, Midway Airport, and Meigs Field. Public transportation is available from O'Hare and Midway airports, and limousines or taxis will take you from all airports to IIT's campus. Take Amtrak to Union Station, then public transportation, taxi or IIT shuttle bus from the Downtown Campus at 565 West Adams Street to Main Campus. Take Greyhound or Continental Trailways terminal, then taxi or public transportation to IIT. Take CTA Red Line (Howard-95th/Dan Ryan to Sox-35th station, CTA Green Line (Ashland-63rd or 63rd-Cottage Grove) to 35th-Bronzeville-IIT station or CTA Bus lines with stops on Main Campus (#29-State, #35-35th, #24-Wentworth, #4-Cottage Grove).

Illinois Tech is looking for students of high academic caliber with strong community ties and work ethic. In the application, we evaluate your academic standing and your extracurricular, community-based, and leadership involvement. We also like to hear why you think an education at Illinois Tech would help you pursue your academic and career goals and how you could contribute to the Illinois Tech community. Be specific. We want to hear your story!
Submit your application as early as possible so our admission staff can help you through the process. All applications will be treated and evaluated equally by the Admissions Committee.

STEP 2: COUNSELOR/TEACHER EVALUATION OR LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
Select a counselor and/or teacher who knows you well and can write about your strengths as a student. One letter is required but up to three are accepted. This form and letter can be submitted electronically by the teacher through the Common Application.
STEP 3: HIGH SCHOOL/SECONDARY SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS
Ask your high school counselor to submit your official high school/secondary school transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admission.
STEP 4: TEST SCORES

Undergraduates study in six of Illinois Tech's eight academic divisions. Illinois Tech's signature Interprofessional Projects (IPRO) Program is one of just a few programs like it in the country. IPRO joins students from various majors and backgrounds to work together in teams to solve real-world problems, often on behalf of sponsor companies.
Why stop with one degree? Illinois Tech's co-terminal program allows students to complete both their bachelor's and master's degrees in as few as five years. You'll keep you undergraduate scholarships in your fifth year and pay the lower undergraduate tuition rate for graduate courses.
It's focused, highly specialized, saves you money—and you can earn your second degree in one of 50 majors.

Minutes from downtown Chicago, Illinois Institute of Technology is a “beautiful green oasis in a bustling city.” This career oriented school prepares students to “[make] the jump from student to professional” with a curriculum “strongly based on applied learning” and access “to student research at all levels.” But IIT “caters to those individuals that want to pursue careers in areas of STEM,” the curriculum “puts an equal emphasis on the life sciences and doesn’t discount humanities.” And while most come for the school’s “historic reputation,” particularly in engineering and architecture, students don’t dismiss the value of the school’s diversity. “The size and diversity of Illinois Tech is perfect,” one student argues, “small enough for individual attention, but large enough for various resources to be available. Working with students from around the world gives you a unique perspective that is useful after college as well.” Many students offer hot and cold reviews of the faculty. “I have had some really fantastic professors who are engaging and make the material genuinely interesting,” one student explains. “However, I’ve had the exact opposite too.” Others say that their “professors are very willing to help... but [they] want you to think for yourself.” Most agree that IIT “is a very academic based institution with mostly excellent professors, especially in upper level classes. Academics here are challenging but rewarding.” “Like any school we have our good teachers and our bad teachers. For the most part, they try to be engaging and interesting.” Others are quick to point out that many of IIT professors “also work in the field” and, therefore, they “apply topics studied in the lectures to the real world,” and “their lectures are very current with the solutions and technologies that are actually being used.”

Life at IIT is very organized, and “the institution is very focused on getting students placed in jobs after commencement.” Career Services hosts several career fairs throughout the year (they even have accompanying prep nights), and offer a variety of services from day one, including career development/peer career coaching, workshops, and mock interviews. Academic departments also help students to apply for experiential learning opportunities such as internships, co-ops, and research opportunities in relevant fields. IIT's proximity to downtown Chicago is a huge plus for employment, and “almost every student either has a job concurrent with their classes or is working on a personal project of some sort.” Of the Illinois Institute of Technology alumni visiting PayScale.com, 50 percent report that they derive a high level of meaning from their jobs.

Illinois Tech students—composed of more than 6,800 undergraduates and graduate students—are curious, creative, and innovative. All 2,800 of our undergraduates have access to cutting-edge research as early as their freshman year. The incoming fall 2018 class boasted a 30-year record number of 965 students.
Illinois Tech is a global and diverse campus, representing 93 countries, with 19 percent of undergraduate students coming from outside the United States and 26 percent of the undergraduate population composed of African American, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, or Pacific Islander students.
Illinois Tech students work hard, but they also find time to take part in a long list of diverse, quirky, and fun student organizations, academic groups, and traditions. Illinois Tech offers more than 150 student groups, from theater to urban farming. Students can help design a quadcoptor in Illinois Tech Robotics, join a fraternity or sorority, or form a team to compete in the university's annual Pumpkin Launch.
Varsity athletics has had a strong and proud legacy at Illinois Tech. The university currently offers 17 NCAA Division III varsity sports, including men's baseball and men's and women's basketball, soccer, lacrosse, track and field, cross country, tennis, volleyball, and swimming and diving.

“The students at IIT are absolute nerds, and we all say that with pride.” IIT “students study hard, focus for the future, bathe in the diversity of campus life, and are able to enjoy all events/programs that IIT and Chicago has to offer.” Many students highlight an interest in “innovation and in aspiring creativity.” IIT has “a very heavily male demographic” of “quiet introverts” who value teamwork and hail from around the world. Our Mies Campus is located in the city of Chicago, just 15 minutes from downtown and less a mile away from Lake Michigan. With a total enrollment of 6,840 (2,883 undergraduates), students never feel like just a number.

Campus Facilities & Equipment
Some of the most famous buildings in the world, designed by legendary architects, are located on Illinois Tech's Mies Campus in Chicago. S. R. Crown Hall, an elegant steel-and-glass National Historic Landmark, is a marvel of engineering and simplicity by influential architect and former head of architecture at Illinois Tech, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Elevated trains run through the Rem Koolhaas-designed McCormick Tribune Campus Center. And Helmut Jahn's State Street Village residence hall was named one of the "coolest dorms in the nation" (U.S. News & World Report).
Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship is our new home for big ideas. Open in 2018, the Kaplan Institute is the HQ of the IPRO Program, Idea Shop, world-renowned Institute of Design, and work spaces where students' entrepreneurial endeavors can incubate and flourish. Special programming fosters creativity, ideation, and no-holds-barred thinking—and is designed to help students prepare to launch the next great invention.
The Idea Shop has the equipment students need to see their ideas actually take shape, literally and figuratively. The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art, rapid-prototyping lab featuring 3-D printers and a 3-D scanner, multiple CNC milling machines, a vacuum former, and a laser cutter. Innovations come in all shapes and sizes in this massive innovation hub, but they all have two things in common: they are the byproducts of imagination and the start of something extraordinary.
In the Architecture Design/Build Studio, students experience firsthand the entire life cycle of a small-building project. Students conceptualize, draft, design, and build a structure from the ground up, and they construct their projects around the world. The program has taken students to Indonesia, Ghana, Japan, New Orleans, Chile, Germany, and Puerto Rico, where students built a community building that allows local citizens to cook for themselves and others. The project in Chile earned students a 2018 Small Project Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects Chicago.
The state-of-the-art Illinois Tech Esports and Digital Arts Center opened in August 2018, specially equipping the university's esports community. The lab, featuring 14 Alienware Aurora R7 computer stations with Alienware 25 gaming monitors, is the central hub for competitive teams to practice. The center is open to casual gamers on weekdays, and available for digital arts workshops and special events.

Students enjoy “playing chess,” “video/tabletop gaming, movie watching,” but many report that “life at school is work and study every day with a few breaks in between.” Or as one jocular student puts it, “This school is nerd school.” While some prefer a lifestyle that is “simple and sorted,” these academically driven students also enjoy playing intramural sports and exploring the many museums, restaurants and cultural attractions of the city. Between the workload, the “very strict” on campus alcohol policies and “mostly small apartments” in Chicago “that get packed quickly,” students say “there doesn’t seem to be much partying going on at this school.” But many students emphasize the important role that Greek life plays in their lives. “The brotherhoods and sisterhoods on-campus can be a serious life-saver,” one student explains, “for those struggling socially, mentally, emotionally, and academically. Most people who go Greek refer to it as the best decision they made while at school, and those who don’t join immediately often wish they did. Yes, it’s that good.”

Sustainability
Illinois Institute of Technology has created an Office of Campus Energy and Sustainability, which is responsible for documenting, reporting, and monitoring sustainability projects on campus, and the Wanger Institute for Sustainable Energy Research, which seeks to improve quality of life while preserving natural resources and the environment for future generations. All new buildings on campus will be built to LEED certification standards, and the university has undertaken the retrofitting of buildings in order to improve energy efficiency. IIT has installed a high-efficiency hot water/steam plant on campus, effectively reducing its carbon emissions by 2.8 million pounds and carbon dioxide emissions by 10.4 million pounds annually. Especially noteworthy is IIT's single-stream recycling program encompassing plastic, metal, paper, and glass. IIT separately recycles electronic waste, scrap metal, ink and toner cartridges, and rechargeable batteries. Used cooking oil is also recycled, while food waste from the cafeteria and catering operations is sent offsite for composting. Fallen trees, leaves, and all landscape waste is kept onsite and reused in the form of mulch or leaf compost. IIT also looks to encourage its students to explore environmentally proactive professional fields through energy- and sustainability-focused specializations, minors, and degree programs. Green-minded students enrolled in the Stuart School of Business can take advantage of the school’s Center for Strategic Competitiveness, and the Armour College of Engineering, in addition to an environmental engineering program.
