Academics
Indiana University Bloomington focuses on creating well-rounded students who will be successful in and after college. This large state school challenges its students academically, but it “creates a fun collegiate environment, as well.” “Academics and school spirit are its specialties!” says one student. The institution offers excellent financial aid and numerous opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students across all departments to conduct research, adding to “the perfect combination of excellent undergraduate teaching, Division I athletic teams backed by a passionate sense of school spirit, and a lively social scene.” The “many excellent professors” here “really care about what they do,” and they really “know what they’re talking about.” They “clearly want what’s best for their students,” and “the learning environment they create is excellent.” “I have been very impressed with the individual attention I have received—mostly due to the level of commitment by professors to their students,” says one student. The “rigorous and competitive classroom environment” gives students “the knowledge to be successful in our futures through great faculty, facilities, and tradition.” Most professors at IU have professional experiences, and therefore “can bring their subjects to life.” The “world-renowned business program” and the education and media schools are standouts here, but students say that all of the “school systems are great and easy to access,” which makes “communicating with students/professors easy.” Even with 50,000 people on campus, the administration gives student groups “much freedom of planning,” and this warm environment allows students to “collaborate academically and non-academically as one community.” This autonomy grants students the chance to explore “anything we want, when-ever, but [find] the key thing we’ll love through many opportunities and great programs.”
