Academics
Kansas State is a large institution, but despite its size, the university manages to feel “very personable and really [focused] on the student,” offering a “welcoming environment and atmosphere.” When it comes to academics, “K-State’s are top notch.” Students particularly call out the programs at the school’s “great College of Agriculture, College of Engineering, and College of Veterinary Medicine.” Additionally, professors from across all disciplines receive glowing reviews: the faculty “truly cares about teaching,” and the “engaging” professors provide “stimulating discussion and work” by “encouraging discussion and in-class participation.” It’s also common for instructors to “go above and beyond to make sure students learn and enjoy their classes.” Lastly, undergrads here truly value the fact that K-State professors are typically “very willing to meet you outside of class to help with any questions or further explain concepts.”
Student Body
Undergraduates at K-State share sentiments about the “helpful, polite, and friendly” nature that permeates the student body. As one student explains, “Wherever I go on campus, people are always willing to hold the door open for me, and I … am always willing to do the same.” A fellow classmate adds, “As a K-State Family, we help each other out, whether that be … forming study groups, carpooling, or walking someone to a building that they are looking for.” This is truly a “genuinely kind” student body. They’re also a “hardworking,” “passionate,” and “driven” lot, a sentiment highlighted by the many students who “spend hours upon hours in the … library studying.” K-State students are also united by their deep ties to the school, finding it is “often … a generational thing [in which] parents, grandparents, and great parents have gone here and continue to instill a passion” for the university. When it comes down to it, one student sums it up nicely: “At Kansas State, we live for each other, we work for each other, and most importantly, we succeed together.” As another explains, “The … reason that I chose K-State was that I felt at home when I visited the campus.”
Campus Life
It’s virtually impossible to be bored at Kansas State. Activities on-campus truly run the gamut, ranging from a “Greek community [with] strong participation” to “the Steel Bridge team where [you can learn] to weld.” Students also note that “sports are a big part of life here.” As one undergrad adds, “The lead-up to [games] is celebrated days out and dominates much of [the] culture.” You can also always find a handful of undergrads “playing basketball at the Rec or playing sand volleyball.” Beyond team sports, you’ll discover that “a lot of students use the recreational complex to work out individually or with a class.” For those looking for a milder form of relaxation, many K-State Wildcats simply like to “hang up hammocks on campus in the spring.” Moreover, a number of undergrads rave about Manhattan, Kansas, which is “a small town [that has] so much to do and experience.” Students also love to head to Aggieville, a neighborhood that has tons of “shopping [and a] bar and restaurant district.” And the more outdoorsy types enjoy taking advantage of bike rides along Linear Trail as well as “hiking the Konza or visiting Turtle Creek Reservoir.”
