Academics
Kettering University is, "one of the best engineering schools in the country," and an, "unique cooperative education program that allows you to gain real job experience as a part of the curriculum." Students say, "The college is built on the fundamentals of having real-world work experience while attaining your degree," and they feel, "Kettering puts you ahead of your peers and prepares you for the real world." Additionally, "Kettering has small class sizes," which, "allow for individual attention from professors." Students say, "although the workload can be intimidating at times," it's a "rewarding school that gives [you] just as much as you put in." Professors are, "mixed bag," and a computer engineering major says, "There are some professors that are out-of-this-world fantastic, and there are others that can't teach their way out of a paper sack." This being said, professors are praised for being, "people with industry and research experience," who, "bring it into the classroom," and "train students not for the final exam, but for the real world."
Student Body
Kettering is, "a university for an extremely specialized kind of student." "The typical student is a Caucasian male interested in engineering." Students describe themselves as, "geeky and awkward," "inventors [and] go-getters," and say, "If you enjoy taking things apart and seeing how they work, you will do just fine." Many complain about the, "awful male-to-female ratio," but they say there are "programs focused on bringing minority students to campus." Most students are "studious," but they "know how to balance it with fun," and "students spend time working hard, and then they relax hard." Although, "Kettering has a lot of nerdy people," "there are quite a few outgoing and social people," and "Greek life at Kettering is about 45 percent." While, "students may drink for fun," and "fraternities throw the occasional party on the weekend," "It's not a big party school," partially because "all fraternities and sororities are required to be dry, as the entire campus is." Regardless, "There's always a meeting, mixer, or activity to take part in for fun," and "Students love spending time together, whether it be relaxing, studying, or going to local events."
Campus Life
Kettering University offers a, "very friendly environment," where, "it's really easy to be known and to make a difference on campus." At Kettering, Greek life rules the school," and another student adds, "Intramural sports are a big part of campus life along with all of the clubs we have on campus as well." That being said, many feel, "It would be nice to have more of a sense of school spirit on campus," and they say, "The university could improve on activities to engage interaction among students." Students say they desire better, "communication between students and administration." There are complaints about location, with students saying, "The surrounding area isn't the best."
