Founded in 1835, Oglethorpe University is Atlanta's only co-educational small private college, providing a superior education in which liberal arts and sciences and professional programs complement each other in this small-college environment within a dynamic urban setting.
2019 marked the opening of the I.W. "Ike" Cousins Center for Science and Innovation and the Q. William Hammack, Jr. School of Business. Other recent additions have included an award-winning campus center, a residential complex with six state-of-the-art classrooms and the expansion of arts and athletic facilities.
In 2018, Oglethorpe lunched Flagship 50, a groundbreaking merit tuition scholarship that matches all 50 states' flagship tuition for qualified students.

Academic Programs
Nearly 60% of students at Oglethorpe major in STEM or business fields and new programs in fields such as filmmaking and public health have recently been added. Through a unique partnership with Georgia Tech, Auburn and Kennesaw State, we offer a dual-degree engineering program where students can earn two degrees, one in physics from OU and one in engineering from our partner school, in as little as 5 years. In fall 2019, Oglethorpe's business programs were expanded with the launch of the new Hammack School of Business, funded by a record $50 million gift from an Oglethorpe alumnus. Oglethorpe joins theory and practice in its A_LAB (Atlanta Laboratory for Learning), an incubator for experiential learning through internships, study abroad, civic engagement, and undergraduate research.
Majors and Degrees Offered
Renowned for its groundbreaking Core program, Oglethorpe's academically rigorous programs emphasize intellectual curiosity, individual attention, close collaboration among faculty and students, and active learning in relevant field experiences. From The School
Oglethorpe students are bright, curious, and engaged. They aren't looking to hide from their professors, but to really learn from them. They're independent, individual, and involved. They're willing to work with everything they've got—in the classroom, on the job, in the community. They're entrepreneurial thinkers who aren't afraid to explore new ideas. A quarter of them are the first in their families to attend college. Some are athletes. Some are artists. Some are all of the above. Some are unconventional. Some are a bit quirky. Some are just plain weird, and proud of it! They're personable and friendly. They're liberal and conservative. They come from the city, the suburbs, and the country—or another country altogether. They're confident in who they are, no matter who that might be. They know that leaders are born in the most unexpected places. They're free spirits and fierce competitors. They come here with open minds and open hearts. They work to build an accepting community where differences are embraced. Where cliques are absent. Where "an active Greek life" means "everyone is welcome." In short? There is no "typical" Oglethorpe student. There's no standard to conform to and no background to blend into.

Location
Imagine life at Hogwarts with the world at your doorstep. Oglethorpe's historic gothic architecture is situated in a safe, enclosed 100-acre wooded oasis. Brookhaven, our hometown, is ranked as the safest city in metro Atlanta.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
Oglethorpe's gothic architecture has earned designation on the National Register of Historic Places. Old meets new with the Turner Lynch Campus Center, opened in 2013, and the cutting-edge Cousins Center for Science and Innovation, opened in 2019. The 7,000 sq. ft. Oglethorpe University Museum of Art hosts internationally recognized exhibits throughout the year. The 511-seat Conant Performing Arts Center is home to the Oglethorpe theatre and music departments, where students join professionals in performances by the Tony-winning Alliance theatre, Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Capitol City Opera and many more. In addition to our seven suite and apartment-style residence halls, students can experience luxury apartment living in Gables Brookhaven, which includes a pool, gym, clubhouse and six Oglethorpe classrooms.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Outside our green campus is a thriving metropolis. Oglethorpe students build their professional network and on-the-job skills through internships in Atlanta, home to one of the largest concentrations of Fortune 500 corporations in the US. They volunteer in our campus-wide days of service and take on active roles in community engagement, helping feed the hungry at soup kitchens, tend the vegetables in community gardens, mentor school children, and so much more. They also take advantage of our international study opportunities to travel abroad, whether for a semester or a two-week trip. Then they return to our multicultural campus—and our global city—with new experiences, new friends, and new perspectives about the world.
