Since its founding in 1876, SMFA has educated some of the most influential artists and creative leaders, fostered important artistic movements, and continues to evolve educational programs to blend creativity, critical thinking, and academic rigor.
SMFA's mission is to provide an education in the arts-for undergraduate and graduate students-that is interdisciplinary and self-directed. It is an education that values cultural, artistic and intellectually diversity. Choose from BFA, BFA+BA/BS, Studio Diploma, Post-baccalaureate, MFA or MAT programs. With guidance and advice from advisors, mentors, and faculty (who are all practicing artists), students are encouraged to explore classes across SMFA's 13 studio disciplines and craft their course of study based on individual interests and passions.
