The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston is committed to helping talented and motivated students pay for school. Each year, 90% of all SMFA students receive some financial aid, which includes Merit Scholarships, Need-based Grants, Federal Work Study, Part-time Employment, Federal Direct Student Loans, Direct Federal PLUS Loans, and Outside Scholarships/Grants.

SMFA is a close-knit community of just over 600 students and 100 faculty members. The classes are intimate (averaging 12 people) and the student body is tight. SMFA is located in the heart of Boston's Fenway Cultural District, just steps from Fenway Park, the Emerald Necklace park system, the Museum of Fine Arts, and the subway or "T."

SMFA life is living in a brownstone in one of the eclectic neighborhoods around campus. It's wandering through the SoWa markets for funky finds. It's checking out a gallery opening before stopping into a local venue for some tunes. It's sharing homemade meals at the Cafe Des Arts, SMFA's campus restaurant.

Ultimately, it's about growing and thriving among peers in the collaborative, sharing artist community that is Boston-where everyone is like you, and no one is like you.

SMFA's main building houses the W. Van Alan Clark Jr. Library; Mac Labs and Advanced Production Lab, which features brand new, state-of-the-art equipment, including fine-art printers and a 3D plastics printer; Media Stockroom, which provides access to equipment including lights, projectors, and a variety of video and still cameras; the School Store, which offers a full line of art supplies at competitive prices and textbooks required for academic courses; the Barbara and Steven Grossman Gallery, a state-of-the-art exhibition space that hosts exhibitions of work by artists of international stature as well as work by current students and alumni; and Cafe Des Arts, SMFA’s campus restaurant.

Recently renovated, SMFA's Mission Hill building includes studio spaces and an exhibition gallery for graduate and Post-Baccalaureate students as well as classrooms, workshops, and the Writing Studio, which offers one-on-one with a scholar-writer consultant for writing and research projects.

Not only is admission to the world-renowned Museum of Fine Arts free for SMFA students, but students have special access to the Museum's encyclopedic collection and exhibitions; exclusive opportunities to work with Museum curators and conservation staff; and the chance to exhibit at the Museum in "Students Curate Students" series and the alumni Traveling Fellowship Program.
