Academic Programs
Stevens offers unique and challenging educational opportunities that foster innovation and lead students to success. Research projects and summer internships are available for all major fields of study. Stevens blends humanities and technology subjects, and is distinctive in the encouragement of students to bridge disciplines and interests. Our technology orientation, combined with humanities and business offerings, provides an optimal blend for developing leadership qualities. Considering these fields together helps students gain perspective not only about the ways in which things work, but also why they matter, what the societal impact might be, and how we can influence progress. Students in different majors collaborate on high-impact projects, like the U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon competition.
The Cooperative Education (co-op) program is also distinctive. Co-op students alternate semesters of on-campus study with semesters of paid, professional work experiences. Co-op students graduate with a competitive edge in the job market, having gained a higher level of confidence through development of significant workplace skills. Our co-op program is one of the reasons Stevens ranks 3rd in the nation for career placement (Princeton Review’s Colleges That Pay You Back, 2015) and was named among the top 50 “Colleges That Create Futures” (Princeton Review, 2015).
The Pinnacle Scholars Program allows exceptional students to participate in honors seminars and summer research. Many take advantage of the 4+1 Master’s Program to graduate with a bachelor's and master's degree in five years, receiving a scholarship equal to 20 percent of graduate tuition in the fifth year.
The annual Stevens Innovation Expo is one of many programs aimed at promoting entrepreneurial thinking at Stevens. In addition to the design project showcase, student inventors present their technologies in a fast-paced and exciting venture-style pitch competition, where students propose business ideas for their new technologies to a panel of five experts, who evaluate and award the most viable projects with the greatest potential for market realization.
Stevens Technical Enrichment Program (STEP) helps broaden the access of minority and economically disadvantaged students to careers in engineering, science, and technology through pre-college and in-college programs and support services.

From The School
The energy at Stevens extends well beyond the classroom activities and career orientation of our students into a robust student life. Nearly 100 student organizations and 26 NCAA Division III athletics teams add to an enriching student experience and prepare students for a healthy and energizing balance of hard work and fun.
Clubs and organizations include sororities and fraternities, performing arts and athletic groups, student government, ethnic organizations, professional societies, and more. The Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, Engineers Without Borders, and Habitat for Humanity are service-oriented groups with active student engagement. Campus traditions like Boken and TechFest (campus-wide festivals), the Unity Show, and Midnight Breakfast during finals study periods are among students’ favorites.
The Schaefer Athletic and Recreation Center features a NCAA competition-size pool with jacuzzi, four-court basketball gymnasium, racquetball courts, and a fitness center. DeBaun Field has been surfaced in a state-of the-art, durable, year-round playing surface for varsity and intramural competition. Walker Gym has an elevated indoor track plus a weightlifting facility and dance studios. There are also six outdoor tennis courts with spectacular Manhattan skyline views and a sand volleyball court. In 2013, Stevens was the recipient of the ECAC/Jostens “Institution of the Year” award, from among more than 320 Division I, II, and III schools, for excellence in academics and athletics — one of only three schools to have received this honor more than once.
Stevens competes in NCAA Division III sports. For men: baseball, basketball, cross-country, fencing, golf, indoor/outdoor track and field, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball and wrestling. For women: basketball, cross-country, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, indoor/outdoor track and field, lacrosse, soccer, swimming, tennis, softball and volleyball. Students may also join a club team or play intramural sports, take health and wellness or fitness classes, or participate in outdoor adventure trips.

Location
Stevens is located in one of the most exciting, cosmopolitan towns in the United States. Hoboken, NJ, is a quaint one-mile-square city with old Victorian brownstones and tree-lined streets dotted with great restaurants and trendy shops. Located on the Hudson River, the 55-acre campus is home to stretches of green lawns, majestic trees, and historic classroom buildings that have been updated with the most current teaching and learning technologies. With the heart of New York City a mere 10-minute commute away, Stevens students take advantage of being close to top companies with exciting internships and career placements as well as unlimited cultural experiences and events throughout the year.
In addition to the robust on-campus student life, Stevens’ location provides for exciting off-campus activities. Dining, entertainment, and major attractions offer numerous artistic, cultural, athletic and recreational opportunities.
Stevens students enjoy a safe and dynamic living environment. Eighty-eight percent of Stevens undergraduate students live on campus, and housing is guaranteed for undergraduates. There are seven on-campus residence halls in addition to various on-and off-campus apartments for upperclassmen. Sixteen fraternities and sororities have chapters on campus and most maintain houses where members may live. Stevens also features “affinity housing” for students interested in community service and civic engagement, as well as a women’s center. The dining program features late night hours to meet students’ busy schedules, and many establishments in Hoboken also accept Stevens’ Duck Bills, reloadable on student ID cards.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
Stevens operates within a technology-centric environment to meet the needs of a technologically fluent campus, offering a variety of centralized, departmental, and individual resources. Facilities include “smart" classrooms, computer-aided design and manufacturing labs, graphics labs, robotic sites, a media arts center, green screen, sound synthesis lab, a computer-aided education lab, a new motion capture lab, and a financial systems center with a Wall Street trading room. Stevens offers its community an extensive wireless networking system. Two pioneering projects underway, the Unified Communications and Collaboration Environment and the Virtual Learning Environment, will have transformative impact on our graphic-and computing-intensive technology applications for learning.
Our research enterprise focuses on key areas that address major interdisciplinary topics of national significance: healthcare and medicine, sustainable energy, financial systems, security, coastal sustainability, and STEM education. Supporting these areas are many specialized laboratory facilities on campus used for academic and research functions, applied research, and educational programs in systems integration that meet and support the needs of government and industry. The Office of Innovation and Entrepreneurship fosters an entrepreneurial culture across the university, advances the outcomes of the research, and engages in the technology transfer that brings new ideas to the marketplace.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Stevens cultivates the value of being a world citizen, giving back to the community and building bridges across cultures. In addition to the popular internship, research, and cooperative education opportunities offered at Stevens, students take their educational experience across the globe through study abroad, service-oriented organizations, and department-sponsored trips.
Community service has a prominent place in campus life. From tutoring local school children to assisting the elderly and participating in neighborhood community projects, Stevens students are very much a part of our hometown. This service orientation extends beyond Hoboken to the global community, with opportunities to bring the benefits of Stevens innovation to countries and areas of need.
