Academics
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Talladega is a historically black college brimming with tradition and opportunity. Many students are drawn here thanks to the school’s “amazing scholarships” and “family[-like] atmosphere.” Of course, Talladega’s wealth of great departments and majors doesn’t hurt either: students are especially quick to highlight the fantastic “education” and “music” programs. Additionally, undergrads note that the college loves to promote “hands on learning.” For example, as one criminal justice student excitedly illustrates, “We...physically conducted a criminal investigation on a fake crime scene created by our professor!” Just as important, all undergrads benefit from “small class size[s and a low] student to professor ratio.” In turn, this allows for an “intimate” classroom experience. And it also makes it incredibly “easy...to reach out to faculty, administrators, etc. if you need any help.” Finally, speaking of faculty, Talladega students happily report that the majority of their professors are “outstanding” and “supportive.” And you can rest assured that they’re “always willing to go out of their way to make sure you understand [the material].” Conversely, “they are also hard on their students as well because they want to see [them] succeed in life.”
Student Body
Undergrads at Talladega speak very highly of their classmates. For starters, students readily assert that people are generally “outgoing, well spoken, and fun.” They also tend to be “very determined,” “focused,” and “hardworking.” Indeed, students here are “striving to become the leaders of tomorrow.” Therefore, it’s not too surprising to hear that the vast majority are highly “involved” in campus life and activities as well. In turn, and perhaps inevitably, most everyone becomes imbued with great “school spirit.” Of course, what Talladega undergrads value most is the fact that their peers are “very friendly and welcoming.” As one student explains, “We treat each other as a family, aiming to make sure each person succeeds.” A classmate immediately concurs adding, “Talladega College makes you feel very welcome and loved; this is my favorite thing about my HBCU. Knowing that people here have your back through anything and support your every move is a great thing.”
Campus Life
Though hometown Talladega might feel a tad sleepy, life on campus is vibrant and full of excitement. And when students need a study break, there are many fun events in which they can participate. For example, the college frequently hosts “movie nights...parties, game nights, step shows and more.” Athletics are fairly popular as well and “if there’s a...game on campus” you better believe these undergrads will be in attendance, cheering on their peers. Of course, there’s no need to fret if you’re not into sports. Music is also big at Talladega and numerous students are involved “in the band.” Additionally, there are plenty of clubs and “extracurricular activities” to join. Undergrads at Talladega are quite adept at making their own fun, too. Indeed, students love to simply “hang out around the residence halls...chat with each other, play games, cards, etc.” And if anyone is itching to get off-campus for a little while, they can head to Birmingham which is within easy driving distance. Fortunately, most students don’t find that necessary because, at Talladega College, “life is great on a daily basis.”
