Campus Facilities & Equipment
Trinity University values its academic resources, among them its state-of-the-art teaching, researching, and learning facilities. Lecture halls, laboratories, offices, libraries, and study spaces strengthen collaborative teaching and learning--they are an investment in our future. From science and engineering laboratories to an extensive library collection to theaters, halls, and galleries: students and faculty at Trinity are encouraged to utilize the full range of academic resources and facilities to support their research and studies.
In the Center for the Sciences & Innovation (CSI), Trinity's science and engineering programs offer students cutting-edge instrumentation usually found only at the graduate level. Trinity's science labs are consistently ranked among the best in the nation. Students utilize shared instrumentation along with controlled environmental chambers, two high-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometers, genetic sequence analyzer, fiber optics/photonics laboratory, an observatory with eight computer-guided telescopes, a laser and soft-matter dynamics laboratory, high-pressure liquid and capillary gas chromatographs and capillary electrophoresis. The CSI also houses the Marrs McLean Science Center and the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Recently renovated, the Ruth Taylor Fine Arts Center is composed of three buildings: the Smith music building, which houses classrooms, practice studios, and the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall; the Dicke art building, which features spacious art studios flooded with natural light, digital photo labs, and an art gallery; and the Ruth Taylor Theater building, which features the 500-seat Stieren Theater, one of the most advanced theatrical facilities at an undergraduate college. Trinity is part of an elite network of schools that are All-Steinway campuses.
At the Richardson Communication Center, students have access to an interactive multimedia lab, two television stations with control rooms, and the students for KRTU-FM--which is not only the campus radio station, but also San Antonio's largest outlet for jazz music.
Off-Campus Opportunities
San Antonio is often referred to as having a small-town feel, even though it is the seventh-largest city in America. Trinity's campus is only 3 miles from the heart of downtown, which allows the Trinity community to experience everything from music shows on the St. Mary's Strip to art events like First Friday to farmer's markets at the Pearl. Professional sports teams such as the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs, the Missions (a Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres), the NASL Scorpions, and events like the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo and Fiesta bring millions of people to San Antonio each year to celebrate its unique local culture.
Do you love being outdoors? With more than 300 days of sunshine per year, there are countless opportunities to take advantage of South Texas' great weather. For more than 25 years, Outdoor Recreation (O-Rec) has led groups of Trinity students on adventures across the country. They crawl among cacti, paddle scenic rivers, and climb high mountains. Whether you are an expert mountaineer or you have never been inside a tent, they have trips for you! Do you want to see the world? Trinity's Study Abroad Program is dedicated to helping students develop their understanding of international issues in a complex world through study options that promote intercultural learning as an integral part of a student's Trinity undergraduate degree. Study Abroad is not about travel. It's really about encountering the world, and even more about discovering the country and yourself.
