Academics

Undergrads at this esteemed university don’t mince words when boasting about all that UCLA has to offer. As a geography and environmental science double-major proudly declares, “There’s nothing that can’t be accomplished at UCLA. The possibilities are endless, and the resources are unparalleled.” Moreover, students appreciate the “ideal” location as well as the “pride of going to a Division I school with more NCAA championships than any other college/university.” Perhaps more notable, “UCLA is the kind of school that pushes you to work hard academically but reminds you that interaction with people outside of the classroom is just as important.” Students are continually impressed by their professors who are “leaders in their field.” Indeed, most consider it “a privilege to study under them.” While some undergrads caution that you might encounter some teachers simply “in it for the research,” others insist, “Most professors care about their students.” A political science major interjects, saying that professors “are willing to work extra hours with students and help us with anything we need.” An English major concurs, sharing, “I have never had a professor that I did not feel comfortable approaching, which has made my academic experience incredibly more beneficial.” As this grateful junior succinctly explains, “UCLA is the campus. The people, the weather, the academics, the sports; it has absolutely everything I could ever want.”

Student Body

UCLA “is the mold that fits you.” More than 30,000 undergraduates and more than 1,000 student groups virtually assure that “there is no ‘typical’ student” to be found at UCLA. This wide range of individuals and activities guarantees that “everyone has their niche.” Certainly, the Bruin community is a “vibrant” one, and “the unmatched diversity broadens students’ horizons culturally and socially.” Of course, undergrads here do tread some common ground. Many define their peers as “very hardworking and ambitious,” and they typically “strive for success and to do their absolute best.” They “know how to have a good time, but they also know when it is time to study.” Further, it’s an active student body, and it often “seems like everyone is in at least one club or organization.” Friendliness is another trademark of UCLA undergrads as a physiology major assures us, “It is very easy to talk to and meet new people and make new friends.” Fortunately, most people are “laid-back,” and while “academically invested,…[they’re] not outright competitive with other students.” This bio major sums up his peers easily by saying, “Everyone comes from different backgrounds with varied interests. The only common denominator is truly an appetite for excellence.”

Campus Life

There’s so much “hustle and bustle” at UCLA that it would be virtually “impossible to [be] bored.” While nearly everyone’s “main focus is on school,” most students also know how to “play hard.” Indeed, “whether it be in Greek life, a club or organization, everybody has somewhere they can go to relax and have some fun. The apartments are close to campus, so nearly everybody lives in a small area with close proximity.” Sports “are extremely popular here, and conversations about the Bruins are common.” There are also “tons of movie showings on campus, recreation centers, pools, activities, [and] events.” Additionally, students love being located in Los Angeles. A happy senior reveals, “You can take a five-minute drive and you’ll be soaking in the Pacific Ocean, or take an hour drive where you can be hitting the slopes in Big Bear. You can walk down to the theater and run into Jennifer Lopez. The possibilities are endless here, with or without money.”
