Academics
University of Louisville is an institution that affords undergraduates “endless opportunities.” Certainly, as one of Kentucky’s premiere public universities, a Louisville education means students are getting a “great value” and an affordable price tag. And when you combine those attributes with a “beautiful” campus that’s “easy to navigate,” well it’s understandable why students eagerly exclaim that Louisville “feels...like home.” With regards to academics, undergrads truly appreciate the university’s “[emphasis on] critical thinking” as well as the “personalized” attention they receive. Therefore, it’s no surprise to hear that Louisville professors “generally [seem to] care about student success [both] in[side] and outside the classroom.” As one satisfied biology student further explains, “They are willing to go above and beyond to help you gain a better understanding of course material and obtain supplementary experience outside of the classroom using their own collaborations and affiliations in the field.” However, some students do find cause to mention that professors in “higher up courses...are better than professors who teach gen-ed courses.” Fortunately, students are pleased to discover that, for the most part, “U of L is about immersing yourself in a diverse community where you have the chance to grow academically, socially, spiritually, and in whatever other ways you choose.”
Student Body
Undergrads at University of Louisville really value the amount of diversity found among their student body. As a highly content nursing student immediately chimes in, “We have so many people with different backgrounds, religions, and interests that no matter where you come from or what you are interested in you will fit in.” This sentiment is bolstered by a peer who states, “We have a little bit of everyone, from sorority girls to hippies to those who study all the time. You will not have trouble finding friends here.” Certainly, there are also plenty of similarities to be found across the student body as well. After all, many undergrads hail from “the Louisville area” and hold “moderate political views.” Students also say that “the majority of [individuals] are extremely nice and easy to get along with.” And they are more than “willing to help” their peers whenever they’re in need. Then again that’s not terribly surprising given that, as this music education major eloquently states, “We are all Cardinals.”
Campus Life
As one excited junior quickly exclaims, life at University of Louisville is “always lively.” Indeed, “there is always something going on both on and off campus and numerous ways to get involved and have a great time.” To begin with, Greek life is “fairly prominent.” And, naturally, there’s a small party scene to go with it. Fortunately, we’re assured that “things never get out of hand; it’s just students trying to wind down and have a good time.” Sporting events are extremely popular as well and these undergrads generate a lot of Cardinal pride. As one music education major boasts, “We have several conference championships already this year and our basketball team looks to repeat as national champions.” Additionally, Louisville students like to give back and community service is a common activity here. An impressed junior reveals, “People are pretty conscientious. They volunteer a lot and there are a million and one volunteer groups throughout the city. Same goes for environmental groups.” Of course Louisville itself is a vibrant city and one which undergrads love to take advantage. For example, students flock to “4th Street Live!, a popular hangout.” And they also “enjoy Churchill Downs and going to horse races as well as the eclectic Highlands area of Bardstown Road.”
