The University of Redlands is a private, nonprofit university that connects students to a world of opportunity, geared toward their passions and potential.
Centrally located near the beaches, mountains and desert in the heart of Southern California, the University offers more than 50 undergraduate programs, as well as 20 graduate programs in business, communication sciences and disorders, education, geographic information systems, and music—blending liberal arts and professional programs, applied and theoretical study, traditional majors and self-designed curricula.
For undergraduates, the University has one of the highest study-abroad participation rates among its peers; an NCAA Division III athletic program contributes to the many extracurricular opportunities available; and students complete more than 120,000 hours of community service annually. The distinctive Johnston Center for Integrative Studies enables self-motivated undergraduates to negotiate their own interdisciplinary course of study with a faculty/peer committee.
The University has its main campus in Redlands, six regional locations throughout Southern California, and an international campus in Austria. Since 1960, more than 3,000 Redlands students have taken part in the Salzburg Semester, living in a castle built in the 16th century. Surveys show that generations of alumni have found that the University, established in 1907, prepared them well for career success and lifelong learning.

Local Accommodations
You have two inexpensive choices within a mile or two of campus. The Goodnight Inn (1675 Industrial Park Ave.; 909-793-3723) has a heated pool and spa. The Best Western Sandman (1120 W. Colton Ave.; 909-793-7001) is about a mile from the university. For a small additional charge, you may have a kitchen unit. There is a pool and a Jacuzzi at the latter.

When selecting a new entering class, the Admissions Committee carefully considers many significant factors, including reviewing the applicant's academic background, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, personal statements, member questions, and recommendation letters.
Talent-based scholarships also require the applicant to audition or submit creative materials. Students' unique talents, personal attributes, and future goals are also considered.

A small institution in Redlands, California, offering both liberal arts and professional studies, the University of Redlands is passionate about “helping students find what they are interested in,” and about “allowing them to pursue avenues that will make them successful throughout life.” Boasting a small student-to-faculty ratio (12:1), and more than forty programs of study, this stunning West Coast university provides a “warm, friendly, and inspirational environment inside and outside classes.” Most seniors complete a research capstone, and because Redlands is a liberal arts college, students “get a well-rounded education and can easily befriend students in other disciplines.” Students love that Redlands is “not a super competitive nor a highstress environment,” and “the size of our classrooms (25 max students per class) ensures that we reach our full potential.” The administration and professors “really care about the success students acquire,” and the system is structured in a way that “caters to students off all mindsets.” No matter how you learn, the University of Redlands “will cultivate and inspire you to be the better version of yourself.”

At Redlands, students are automatically considered for need-based financial aid and merit scholarships based on their academic record. Redlands also offers talent scholarships in art, creative writing, music, and theatre.
Financial aid is available to all undergraduate students who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Students wishing to be considered for financial aid must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Forms can be found online at U.S. Department of Education website.

The University of Redlands College of Arts and Sciences has an undergraduate population of more than 2,400 and a graduate population of more than 1,700. Our student population size translates to a stronger campus community; students, faculty, and staff are on a first-name basis. Most students live on campus in halls, apartments, or organizational houses.
Students at the U of R are engaged; they transform and impact their communities on campus, in Redlands, and around the world. A majority of the student body is involved in some type of leadership activity. Community service is a requirement; in 2017, U of R students collectively put in more than 120,000 community service hours.
There are more than 125 clubs and organizations on campus, and more than 450 events are organized (mostly by students) per year. A Club and Organization Advisory Board oversees and supports each group. The Greek system is local-only (not belonging to national groups) and involves about 28 percent of the student population. U of R's 21 Division III athletic teams regularly compete at championship levels. On average, Redlands' scholar-athletes achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher along with active involvement in their sport.
Many students are involved in intramurals and club sports. Outdoor programs, in which students go on trips catering to different interests and skill levels, offer classes such as May Term Outdoor Adventure; this monthlong course helps students develop outdoor skills, competence, leadership, and community. First-Year Journeys offer students adventure and the chance to make friends and learn about life at Redlands before the school year starts; activities include rock climbing, camping, bungee jumping, canoeing, biking, scuba diving, surfing, volunteering and more.
Redlands' academic emphasis is reflected in the many academic clubs and honor/professional societies, which foster faculty and student networking and encourage exploration and service.
The Associated Students of the University of Redlands (ASUR) is the University's student government organization that represents students on issues including academics, University policy, student life, and other areas. The ASUR also works to provide high-quality programming and special events, hosting speakers such as activist Angela Davis, soccer star Landon Donovan, author Sandra Cisneros, and more.

This is a “truly inclusive,” “ecologically-minded,” student body, with the majority being “open-minded with liberal inclinations.” Since this is a small campus everyone is “really close,” and “there is a niche for all types of people.” “You can’t go anywhere on campus without running into someone you know,” says a student. It is easy to get involved on campus, and “there is a good dynamic between students and professors.” There tends to be a bit of a divide between the 200 or so students living and studying in the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies (who are more on the “creative” side) and the College of Arts and Sciences: “a weird dynamic, not a bad or troubling one.”

The University of Redlands “absolutely gorgeous” campus has “the classic feel of a small liberal arts university with the California vibe,” with outdoor programs that give students “the opportunity to experience California.” Academics fill Sundays through Thursdays, but many people also find time to “work out, go sit outside on the quad, go hiking, study in the library, or grab food with friends.” Students also find it fun to go downtown, “especially on Thursdays for Market Night,” and on weekends they can often be found nearby at the “beach, the mountains, Disneyland, or Los Angeles.” (“Everything is about an hour away” from campus). Though there is a shuttle downtown, “one needs a car here to go do fun things,” but “thankfully, parking is free.” There are also “on-campus parties, outdoor program trips, and activities” provided through the school. Greek life and sports are big here, and “attendance at sports events is pretty impressive”: Even during the week, “the student body tends to fill a majority of the student section at basketball games.”
