The University of Tampa is a private, medium-sized, comprehensive university in the heart of Tampa. UT offers students an exciting combination of challenging coursework and real-world learning experience in more than 200 areas of study. Situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus, the University is adjacent to the Hillsborough River and downtown Tampa. Students enjoy a traditional, self-contained campus only steps away from the professional and cultural opportunities of a bustling city. At the center of campus lies Plant Hall, once a luxurious hotel for the rich and famous. The University of Tampa's undergraduate curriculum is designed to give students a broad academic and cultural background as well as a concentrated study in a major. Students complete a comprehensive core curriculum known as the Baccalaureate Experience, which is highlighted by the unique and innovative First-Year Seminar — an academic orientation program that encourages student development via exploration of global issues, career possibilities and critical thinking and communication skills. International experience is an important focus at The University of Tampa. Through globally oriented courses and study abroad opportunities, students are prepared to live and work internationally. In 2018 there were more than 24 faculty-led travel courses to countries such as Costa Rica, Ghana, Cuba, Morocco and Italy. For qualifying students, UT offers a rigorous and rewarding Honors Program of expanded instruction, student research, internships and the opportunity to study at Oxford University.

The University of Tampa is “very diverse in that people from all different cultures make up the community.” There is a large international student population and plenty of people from out of state (only half of all undergraduates are from Florida), and “many are very outgoing and will go out of their way to be there for other students.” “I’ve met people from Sweden, Bermuda, Nigeria, and many other nations…. The diversity among the … cultures [at] UT is something,” says a student. There is much promotion of diversity among students, so they are introduced to “a large variety of beliefs, backgrounds, ethnicities, and ideologies.” Many who go here “are in athletics or just use the gym regularly,” but they are “motivated to do well in their field of study” at the same time.

The Tampa Bay area is one of the fastest growing regions in the United States and is a leading center for the arts, international business, law, education, media and health and scientific research. Campus Facilities & Equipment
UT has invested approximately $600 million in new academic facilities, technology and residence halls since 1998, making this national historic landmark the model of a modern university. 93% of residence halls are new within the past 15 years and most others have been renovated recently. (For residence hall video tours, visit www.ut.edu/residencelife/videos.) The Vaughn Center and residence hall complex serves as the hub of student life. Here students find food courts, recreational areas, a theater, student office space, the Barnes & Noble campus store and a ninth-floor conference center with incredible views of Tampa Bay. Morsani Hall offers state-of-the-art amenities and eight separate dining venues. Other outstanding facilities and resources include the Sykes College of Business, a waterfront Marine Science Field Station and research vessels, Ferman Music Center, Reeves Theater, the 1,000-seat Falk Theatre, R.K. Bailey Art Studios and Sykes Chapel and Center for Faith and Values. The newly renovated Martinez Athletics Center, Naimoli Family Softball Complex and Naimoli Family Athletics and Intramural Complex represent some of the best athletic facilities in the country. Students also enjoy a 21st-century fitness center, completed in fall 2016.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Across the river in downtown is the Tampa Museum of Art, Straz Center for the Performing Arts, Florida Aquarium, Amalie Arena and an outstanding public library. Students are able to walk to the dynamic Sparkman Wharf, which includes 15 dining venues and a beautiful bayside view. Busch Gardens is several miles from campus, and Walt Disney World and Universal Studios are only 90 minutes away. Tampa International Airport is 5 miles from campus.
