Burlington International Airport is two miles from campus. Taxis, local buses, and rental cars are available for the trip from the airport to campus. Taxis are at or can be called from the airport. Rental car agencies in the airport are open 24 hours a day. The CCTA bus line from the airport to campus runs Monday trough Friday from 6:40am to 10:10pm and Saturday to 8:10pm.
Driving Instructions to Campus
From I-89, take Exit 14W and proceed a mile west to campus. The admissions office is 1 block left on South Prospect St. From U.S. Rte. 7, enter Burlington and turn up the hill at the intersection with Main St. (Rte. 2). The campus is at the top of the hill. The admissions office is 1 block right on South Prospect St. From the east, Rte. 2 becomes Main St. in Burlington and bisects the campus. The admissions office is 1 block left on South Prospect St.

UVM welcomes applications from talented students. Through a holistic admissions review, we select students with strong potential for academic success who will contribute to our community. The rigor of an applicant's academic program; grades; standardized test results; and trends in performance are considered. Essays, recommendations, and other evidence of each student's life experience also assist our evaluation. We also offer a number of optional essay questions should a student wish to express their interest further. Admission decisions are made without regard to family financial circumstances. All applicants must complete the following requirements prior to enrolling at UVM.

Academics at UVM are supplemented and deepened by a world of hands-on learning opportunities, from travel-study to service learning, and a wide array of internships in locations ranging from Vermont to China. Undergraduate research opportunities are plentiful; students assist faculty with their groundbreaking research in state-of-the-art facilities across campus, including UVM's highly-ranked medical school and affiliated medical center and in our new STEM facility.
The university's Honors College enrolls students from the full spectrum of academic programs at the university, providing a rigorous, multi-disciplinary academic challenge that complements and enriches the entire undergraduate experience.

UVM's 100+ undergraduate majors are offered through its seven undergraduate colleges: College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education & Social Services, College of Engineering & Mathematical Sciences, College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Grossman School of Business, and Rubenstein School of Environment & Natural Resources.

A public research university in Burlington, the University of Vermont offers the complete package: “great academics … in a great area [with] lots to do while getting a great education.” This is bolstered by professors who are “engaging and clearly very passionate about what they teach.” One student says, “[Professors] have opened my eyes to new interests, new ways of thinking, new skills, and new innovations.” While some students voice concerns of “too many general education requirements” and the need for “access to quality counseling, advising, and therapists,” they overall appreciate the variety of “rigorous yet interesting” programs. UVM students are known for being active in service and in sports and as social progress and environmental health defenders. They are national and international contenders in competitions ranging from debate to skiing to alternative race car design. There are countless ways for UVM students to get involved on campus, in the Burlington community, beyond borders – and they do.
Catamount pride swells for the university's 18 Division I sports programs. Enthusiastic crowds come out for soccer, hockey, and basketball games. Many of UVM's 50+ club sports also compete nationally and bring home trophies.
All first-year students live in residential learning communities, where they engage in learning and projects with others who share their particular interests in areas spanning art and creativity, wellness, leadership, outdoor experience, innovation and entrepreneurship, and global citizenry.

Students reap educational as well as recreational rewards from our location in Burlington, a city lauded for business innovation, arts, food and outdoor recreation. It's any easy walk from campus to downtown restaurants, coffee spots, retail shops, music and other arts venues. A short stroll from the city center leads to Waterfront Park, a skate park, sailing center, and 10-mile bike path along Lake Champlain with panoramic views of the Adirondack Mountains. Some of the best skiing/riding, hiking, biking and paddling trails in the Northeast are less than an hour's drive from campus. Burlington itself is easily reached by car, bus, or plane from several major cities; Burlington International Airport (BTV) is 3 miles from campus.

The UVM Campus has undergone transformation in the last few years with completion of several major building projects: Discovery Hall, phase I of a new STEM center; Ifshin Hall, expanding the Grossman School of Business; the Michele and Martin Cohen Hall for the Integrative Creative Arts; a new residence hall for 695 first-year students connected to the main library with several dining options, including a teaching kitchen.

Area businesses and agencies offer internships and job experience in fields ranging from food science to finance, snowboard manufacturing to biotech. The Vermont landscape is a vast laboratory for geology, biology, and natural sciences. While being considered “absolutely … academically rigorous,” there’s also a strong focus on extracurriculars, and there are plentiful opportunities to get involved: “UVM offers lots of clubs to participate in, and if you don’t see something you want, you can start your own club.” In addition to clubs, the school is “always putting on different events,” and on top of those options, many are drawn to the recreation the nearby terrain offers as well. One student says, “It is simply an outdoorsy school. Hiking, fishing, boating, skiing, snowboarding, [and] running … are all extremely popular.” Off campus, “Students go downtown to cafés, restaurants, galleries, and shops.” Many students are drawn to the “chill, small town atmosphere” of Burlington and its “amenities of urban life,” and the “small community feel” of the school itself complements that. One student remarks, “I cannot walk across campus … without seeing at least eight to ten friends.” An enthusiastic peer states that it’s one of “the best places to live as a college student on the East Coast.”

With hometown Burlington known for its hippie vibe, and its location on the edge of a lake that touches not just two states but also two countries, it makes sense that the University of Vermont is known as a green campus. The UVM Environmental Program is forty years old and offers interdisciplinary and individually designed concentrations, including a track in Sustainability Studies. The Rubenstein School of Environment & Natural Resources offers majors in forestry, wildlife and fisheries biology, and natural resources. Internships, class projects, and lectures—like the George D. Aiken Lecture Series on conservation topics—bring together campus and community members to increase awareness of and create solutions for environmental problems. UVM’s Office of Sustainability tracks environmental performance, recommends environmentally responsible practices, and works with the university community on environmental projects. Recent energy efficiency investments around campus have yielded millions of dollars in savings and helped the university move incrementally closer to its goal of carbon neutrality by 2025. Additionally, the university has developed a Clean Energy Fund which generates $225,000 each year from a dedicated student fee to support renewable energy projects on campus—ideas for such projects come from the university community. Much of the advanced research performed on campus relates to healthy and sustainable communities, and the Office of Community-University Partnerships and Service Learning supports collaborative projects between the university and the surrounding area. Fall and spring career fairs emphasize green jobs and internship opportunities. UVM is home to two environmentally focused residence halls. Student activism has ended sales of bottled water and supported the university’s participation in the Real Food Challenge.
