Academics

Students at the University of Kansas’ School of Business describe their institution as “the best business school in the Midwest,” and they have good reason to be so complimentary. “Positive, up-tempo, friendly, and lots of work,” the Kansas program is “vastly underrated” and a “truly wonderful” grad school experience. The students characterize the professors as “second to none” and are impressed with their academic and professional backgrounds.” KU profs, who are “active in the business world within their fields,” exhibit “a great blend of teaching skills and real-world experience.”

Students are held to a high standard and are “expected to be well-prepared, well-read, and well-spoken in course discussions.” The “fantastic” administration receives high praise as well. One MBA candidate reported that “if you want to try something different or want to attend a conference, they support you 100 percent of the time.” Students also mention the administration’s constant efforts “to improve facilities, encourage student involvement and input, and expand the faculty and curriculum.”

On top of the full-time MBA offered at KU, the school also offers a Working Professional MBA, a Master ’s in Accounting, Master ’s in Finance, and several dual-degree MBAs, including a JD/MBA, MBA/MIM, MBA-PharmD, MBA/PM (petroleum management). KU also has an extensive PhD program in which students can concentrate in accounting, information systems, finance, marketing, decision sciences, and management. KU’s “focus on the global business environment” is a huge draw for many applicants, who feel that the school provides “an exceptional international business program for being in the middle of the United States and far from the coasts.” Reasonable fees also are a major plus, and many students feel they’re receiving a great deal of value for their money.
