Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport near Weyers Cave, VA - about 20 miles from Eastern Mennonite University; 20-minute drive. Dulles International Airport is 120 miles from EMU; two-hour drive. Greyhound bus service is available in Harrisonburg.
Driving Instructions to Campus
From Richmond, Roanoke, Blacksburg, Staunton, Tidewater: I-81 north to exit 245 the Port Republic Road exit. Turn left on to Port Republic Road. Go one mile to Route 42. At the stop light turn right on Rt 42, follow Rt 42 north for two miles and turn left on to Mt. Clinton Pike. Continue 1/2 mile to EMU sign. Campus is on right.
From Winchester, Washington D.C., Maryland and Pennsylvania: I-81 south to exit 251. Turn left at stop sign. Take Rt 11 South. Go approximately 2 miles to stop light. Turn right onto Mt. Clinton Pike. Continue approximately 2 miles to Rt 42. At traffic light (Mt. Clinton/Rt 42 intersection) continue for 1/2 mile to EMU sign. Campus is on the right.

Sustainability
Eastern Mennonite University was an environmental steward long before “sustainability” was a trendy buzzword. And, fortunately, the university still continues to be a trailblazer for the green movement. For starters, some lucky undergrads reside in one of the three LEED Gold-certified dormitories. These residence halls were constructed using locally sourced supplies and contain high-efficiency lighting and plumbing and low-VOC materials. Moreover, back in 2010, EMU launched a solar array on the roof of Hartzler Library, the largest commercial scale solar project (first one over 100 kilowatts) at the time. Over the course of their 35-year lifespan, the panels will reduce EMU’s reliance on coal and other fossil fuels and eliminate more than 6,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. As if all that weren’t enough, the university also proudly boasts five campus gardens, which are tended by students, faculty and staff. The fruits of their labor provide fresh (and tasty!) produce for the dining halls. In 2012, EMU was recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as the third bicycle-friendly university in the state of Virginia. Thankfully, the green movement here also extends to the classroom. Indeed, Eastern Mennonite undergrads can take advantage of an array of environmentally focused courses and majors. Students enroll in classes such as green design and compost research and applications. Undergraduates learn about these areas and then generate real-world solutions and/or practices that can be implemented around campus. EMU hopes that students will then take this understanding of conservation out into their communities and help create a healthier, more sustainable and beautiful world.
