UNE offers a variety of cultural and social events and encourages students to become involved in activities, clubs and sports. Popular interests include scuba diving, skiing, hiking, biking, varsity and intramural sports, swimming, surfing, music, theater, community service and student leadership development programs.
UNE athletes-called Nor'easters after one of the nastiest storms in Mother Nature's arsenal -strive for success on and off the field. With 13 conference championships in the last five years, student athletes at UNE have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25. Our intercollegiate teams compete at the Division III level in men's basketball, cross country, golf, ice hockey, lacrosse and soccer. Football will see its first varsity action beginning in 2018. Varsity women's sports include basketball, cross country, field hockey, ice hockey, lacrosse, rugby, soccer, softball, swimming and volleyball.
The personal attention students receive from faculty both in and out of class, and the quality of faculty as experts in their fields are key strengths of the UNE experience. Students appreciate their faculty members as mentors and trust them as accomplished scholars who impact their fields. From designing coastal trails and restoring wetlands on campus to caring for patients in need, UNE faculty members work side-by-side with their students and are recognized by their peers and other leaders for their expertise. UNE faculty members are national award recipients, Fulbright scholars, authors and world-class researchers, and they share their knowledge unselfishly with their students.

BIDDEFORD CAMPUS
UNE's waterfront campus in Biddeford, Maine, offers more than 4,000 feet of scenic shoreline where the Saco River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The local area has a long history as a coastal vacation destination. Within its 540 acres, the Biddeford Campus is the hub of undergraduate student life from its vibrant campus clubs and athletics teams, to its innovative study and living spaces.
PORTLAND CAMPUS
A rustic brick port sets the stage for a thriving buy-local economy and hip cultural scene -with outdoor adventure all around. UNE's Portland Campus, a classic, century-old New England quad just a short drive from the waterfront, anchors UNE's tight-knit, engaged community within this exciting city.
TANGIER CAMPUS
UNE set a new study abroad standard with its Tangier, Morocco campus, which features state-of-the-art labs and modern accommodations, as well as easy access to beaches, downtown and cultural attractions. Students can enjoy a semester abroad at our Tangier campus or with partner universities in Spain, France and Iceland for about the same cost as a semester in Maine.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
Both the Biddeford and Portland Campuses feature buildings with a variety of uses to support the needs of the University community. On the Biddeford Campus, several research facilities are on campus, including the Arthur P. Girard Marine Science Center; the Harold Alfond Center for Health Sciences, with biology and chemistry labs as well as lecture halls, classrooms, a gross anatomy lab, and UNE?s medical school facilities; the Pickus Center for Biomedical Research; and the Peter and Cécile Morgane Hall, a science center providing additional classrooms and an undergraduate teaching laboratory. The Department of Creative and Fine Arts offers a dedicated building that provides faculty offices and studio space for drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting and photography. The Biddeford Campus includes undergraduate student housing, graduate and undergraduate classrooms, labs and a makerspace; cafés and innovative study and gathering spaces in the new Danielle N. Ripich Commons; and various athletic facilities and fields, including an NHL-size hockey arena, blue turf field, basketball arena, and much more. The Portland Campus houses Maine's only College of Dental Medicine, the College of Pharmacy, and the Westbrook College of Health Professions, which offers undergraduate and graduate programs in several allied health fields. The 41-acre campus also includes the Center for Global Humanities, Art Gallery and Maine Women Writers Collection. The Blewett Science Center, home to UNE?s nursing program, consists of science labs and classrooms. UNE?s Interprofessional Simulation and Innovation Center, which provides customized training and education for students and health professionals, is also on the Portland Campus.
Off-Campus Opportunities
On any given weekend at UNE, thrilling adventures await. Students can ride countless miles of mountain bike trails and scenic rural roads, kayak and sail on Casco Bay, camp and hike at hundreds of great parks, or just take in some sun at UNE's own Freddy Beach. With more than 90 clubs and organizations on UNE's campuses, students discover many opportunities to get involved. Whether an academic club, an arts club, student government, a cultural organization or an outdoor recreation group, it's easy to find others who are ready to welcome new students aboard.
