Description
The mission of the Yale School of Management is to educate leaders for business and society. Throughout its history, Yale SOM has been known for its social and environmental commitments and its focus on ethical leadership.
Social, environmental, and ethical considerations are included in the overwhelming majority of courses in Yale SOM’s innovative integrated MBA curriculum. In core classes, for example, students have analyzed the business model for Climate Change Capital and studied the solar energy markets in the U.S. and China through a Yale-authored case on Trina Solar. Other recent case studies have focused on climate resilience, bio-ethanol, corporate sustainability, and sustainable accounting practices. .Advanced electives, both at Yale SOM and elsewhere at Yale, allow in-depth study of social and environmental topics. A small sample includes Energy Technology Innovation, Energy Markets Strategy, Natural Capital: Risks and Opportunities in Global Resource Systems, and Financing Green Technologies. A student-managed elective on Global Social Enterprise pairs student consulting teams with nonprofit organizations in the developing world, including groups working on issues related to sustainability. The Global Social Entrepreneurship elective facilitates education and interaction between social entrepreneurs and SOM students both at Yale and in the entrepreneurs’ home countries.
Yale SOM offers joint-degree study with a number of other schools and programs at Yale University, including an MBA/MEM or MF with the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. The Yale Center for Business and the Environment (CBEY) serves as the administrative home for this joint degree program. The Center for Business and the Environment at Yale joins the strengths of two world-renowned institutions, the Yale School of Management and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. These two schools have been at the forefront in bringing together business and the environment in innovative and constructive ways for more than a quarter of a century. http://cbey.research.yale.edu/
