Required course work is eight semesters hours each of Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics, all with associated labs. Six semester hours of English are also required. The MCAT is required, and scores should be from within the past three years. The April, rather than August, MCAT is strongly advised. For applicants who have taken the exam on multiple occasions, all sets of scores are considered.

Graduates

The College of Medicine has graduated more than 5,000 African American physicians, almost half of the total number of African American physicians who studied and who practice in the United States. About three-quarters of graduates go on to work in medically underserved rural and inner-city areas. Some graduates enter residency programs at Meharry, which has a total of 30 post-graduate positions in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Psychiatry.
